Darda is famous for the German-engineered motors in its wind-up cars which need NO keys, NO batteries and NO electricity! Darda motors can NOT be over-wound; - they are simply wound by hand - so, they're perfect for little ones to operate. Darda cars and sets are age-graded for 4+. Track sets with flexible track are interchangeable and expandable for limitless play value.
The brand of Darda revolves around our one-of-a-kind, patented, Mega-Motor. This motor was created in Germany in 1976 by the company's original founder and inventor, Helmut Darda.
Mr. Darda used the same German engineering that produces the world's most accurate wristwatches to create the unique Mega-Motor. Its design has never changed, and no other brand of wind-up motor car can boast its speed and durability. And, when the motor does start to slow down, it can be easily replaced. There's no need to throw the car away. Though there are cars on the market which appear similar, these cars must use a battery-powered charging station, or "pull-back" motors that only allow the car to travel a few feet before needing to be re-wound
Helmut Darda entered the U.S. market in 1978 when he founded Darda, Inc. based in East Brunswick, NJ. In the late eighties to early nineties, Darda, Inc. was bought by Life-Like Products, Inc. based in Baltimore, MD. Darda became a brand in the company's portfolio.
In 2005, Wm. K. Walthers acquired all assets of Life-Like Products including Darda. It continues to be a growing and strong-selling specialty toy brand within the Walther's portfolio of toy and hobby products.
